The Tony Awards dress rehearsal is closed to the general public. There are no tickets available for purchase at this invitation-only event.

Are Off Broadway shows or touring productions eligible for Tonys?

No. Only Broadway productions that open in designated Broadway theatres in Manhattan are eligible for Tonys.

Who votes for the Tonys?

Tony voters include voting members of The Broadway League and the board of directors and designated members of the advisory committee of the American Theatre Wing, along with members of the governing boards of Actors' Equity Association; the Dramatists Guild; SDC, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society; United Scenic Artists; and the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers. Other eligible voters include members of the Theatrical Council of the Casting Society of America and members of the New York Drama Critics Circle and the Tony Awards Nominating Committee. How are shows and artists nominated for Tony Awards?

The Nominating Committee is made up of a rotating group of approximately 50 theatre professionals who serve for overlapping three-year terms. Committee members are asked to see every new Broadway show. The committee votes on the nominations, which are normally announced in the spring, about six weeks before the awards.

Whom are the Tony Awards named for?

The Tony Awards are named for Antoinette Perry (1888-1946), an actress, stage director and philanthropist who was a founder of the American Theatre Wing. She staged the original production of Mary Chase's comedy Harvey. The American Theatre Wing's website contains more information about Antoinette Perry and the history of the Tonys.

Who presents the Tony Awards?

The Tony Awards are presented by Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of two organizations: the The Broadway League, the national trade association for the commercial theatre industry; and the American Theatre Wing, a not-for-profit service organization for both the theatre community and the community at large.

Unfortunately, TonyAwards.com cannot forward emails or messages to nominees, nor can we contact them on your behalf. You may send fan letters via regular mail to nominees care of the theatre at which their show is playing, or look for them on social media.

What are the dimensions and shape of the Tony Award?

The Tony Award trophy stands nearly nine and a half inches tall and weighs 3.5 pounds. The award is a circular medallion mounted on an armature, which is in turn affixed to a base.

What does the Tony medallion represent?

The Tony Awards medallion dates to 1949, the third year of the awards. Designed by Herman Rosse, it is a silver disk depicting the masks of comedy and tragedy on one side and the winner's name, the award category, the production, and the year on the reverse.

Do nominees receive anything, even if they don't win a Tony?

Yes. All nominees receive certificates and commemorative pins.
